The role of the Head of Sales & Client Services is to lead revenue generation for our subscription and advisory businesses in Japan. The role requires you to be an intelligent problem solver with a passion for the innovation, tech and creative industries.

Driven by pipeline management and beating targets, you will be responsible for managing and motivating the Japanese New Business and Client Services teams, whilst also regularly presenting to clients and prospects yourself. You will be required to create and develop business relationships within the region, building the reputation of Stylus Japan and ensuring regional billings targets are exceeded. 

Key responsibilities

  • Line manage the Stylus Japan New Business and Clients Services teams, ensuring that relevant processes are put in place to maximise efficiency and that targets are met
  • Monitor team’s pipeline activity and provide regular updates on sales forecasts to Chief Commercial Officer
  • Carry out regular reviews with direct reports, ensuring that professional growth and development plans are put in place and that top talent is retained
  • Work closely with the Stylus and Dentsu Marketing teams to ensure Japanese marketing and advertising activities are generating revenue, identifying the activities that generate the greatest ROI
  • Work closely with the Stylus Content team to ensure client and prospect feedback is presented and that sales messages are aligned
  • Work closely with the Stylus Advisory team to maximise advisory sales opportunities
  • Propose suggestions to the Chief Commercial Officer on existing product offering to maximise commercial opportunities
  • Develop and implement strategy to grow Stylus Japan revenue in line with annual targets set by the Board
  • Regularly meet with clients to ascertain their needs and gather product feedback
  • Attend prospect meetings (on own and with sales team) to secure new clients
  • Present Stylus content to clients and at Japanese events
  • Attend relevant local events to keep up to date with industry developments and to prospect for new business
  • Travel to London HQ periodically for training and to spend time with London-based staff


Required skills & qualifications

  • 10+ years’ experience in B2B sales, with at least 5 years at senior sales manager level (consultancy sales preferable), ideally with responsibility for selling into the Japanese market
  • Number orientated, fanatical about monitoring sales and pipeline trends and beating targets
  • Proven success in solution selling techniques
  • Ability to understand product, design or consumer issues a brand may have and position Stylus as a solution
  • An experienced presenter with exceptional communication skills
  • Strong people manager with a proven ability to manage, grow and motivate sales teams, fostering a culture of exceeding targets as well as teamwork, collaboration, development and growth
